The latest edition of Afnic’s activity report is now available! In addition to its legal value, given that it is adopted by our association’s Board of Trustees, the annual report is a highly valuable ex-post exercise. This summary document encompasses all of the Afnic teams and our members, looking back at our most iconic joint achievements over the past year.
The first positive effect of any activity report is that it compels us to reflect on the work carried out. Despite its utmost efforts to anticipate workloads and forecasts, Afnic needs to adapt to changes in the external environment whilst demonstrating agility.
In 2023, Afnic broke new ground with innovative tools in the fight against domain name abuse. Improvement of the quality of the database of domain name holders, a system for the verification of holders’ data before publication of domain names, and monitoring and sanctions for abuse, thanks notably to our R&D work… In addition, automated access to holders’ data for administrations with a right of communication and the introduction of a free dispute mediation service between a holder and a claimant have further extended the registry’s dispute resolution and quality improvement initiatives.
In 2023, Afnic also continued to support the digital transition of VSEs and SMEs, as can be seen from the excellent performance of the .fr TLD and the growth of our national domain.
Lastly, Afnic readied itself in 2023 for the relocation completed in February of this year. Afnic’s acquisition of this modern building was a truly momentous occasion, one that strengthens the association’s long-term financial solidity, among other things. We now have a powerful tool to enable us to receive members, bring the association to life, and become part of one of France’s most prolific economic, community-based and innovation-centred fabrics on the edge of the Plateau de Saclay and at the heart of the new town of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. The reception facilities, the training rooms, the building’s energy efficiency, its enhanced physical security and improved working conditions are all attributes that lend themselves both to our operational and CSR targets.
This activity report gives you a closer look at Afnic’s many accomplishments in France and internationally. The must-read for this summer, or any other time of year!

About Afnic
Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.
In addition to managing French TLDs, Afnic’s role is part of a wider public interest mission, which is to contribute on a daily basis, thanks to the efforts of its teams and its members, to a secure and stable internet, open to innovation and in which the French internet community plays a leading role. As part of that mission, Afnic, a non-profit organization, has committed to devoting 11% of its Revenues from managing .fr Top Level Domain to actions of general interest, in particular by transferring €1.3 million each year to the Afnic Foundation for Digital Solidarity.
Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.
Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has nearly 90 employees.
